I've only been to a few bar mitzvah's, but they all seemed somewhat chaotic with no official start time, people coming in here and there, kids getting up and moving around a lot. I suppose it depends on the synagogue, but I imagine that as long as you take the baby out if she is fussing, crying, or happy screeching, you'll be fine.[/quote]

Yep, it's a congregational event -- meaning it's that day's sermon.  If you choose to go to synagogue that day at that time (with your baby, with your triplets, with your seven children), that's what you choose to do.  It's not "about the young person."  Yes, it's very important to the young person and his/her family, but it's still part of the normal service, and anyone welcome to attend the normal service (which would be anyone) is welcome to attend.[/quote]
