I usually give $3-5 to the shampooer, regardless of the price of the cut and then close to 20% to the stylist...rounding down to whatever cash I have on hand.  For example, I used to go to a stylist who charged $115.  I would give her $20 and her assistant $5, making the total tip slightly above 20%.  I don't think this was offensive to her, since I never had trouble getting in with her and she often offered (though I never took her up on it) to give me a quick neck trim etc for free between cuts and to just let the front desk know it was me even if she didn't have an available slot.

I've now found someone who is much closer to me, charges less, and doens't use an assistant.  I tip her 20% on my CC.  The only downside with her is she is a little scatter-brained and takes longer.[/quote]
