We are happy at our school but can not afford to donate.
You can't afford $20 or 50? The school needs to show their families want to be part of the community and help the fund. They are looking for a family % - not a heavy donation. Just mail it in. We are on 70% FA and still contribute $100 each year. Sometimes more if we can.
We could afford just about this and the development office said not to bother.
What?!? Are you serious? Wow, that's pretty insulting. I've never known a charity to down $5 much less $50. Is your school financially sound? Can't possibly be with that type of attitude about a donation? Schools with the biggest endowments are happy to accept whatever you can give. Giving isn't about the amount, it's about saying "I'm committed to what you are doing" so I will give you what I can afford over what I am obligated to give you.
