OP. Unless your child has sensory issues, you should rethink NY. My 7yo loves NY. So many great museums and playgrounds.
Just took Dd (8 yr) to NYC. Amtrak. I booked tix for Ellis and Statue if Liberty then did Time Square (window shopped). Loved the M&M store there!
OP here. He does have minor sensory issues - nothing we're really treating but the subway would be a problem. I spend a lot of time there though and was thinking about it... Statue of Liberty is a good idea - did you stay downtown? Maybe I have been thinking about this wrong - I was thinking midtown and a play. What else?
My 6 year old DS loves NYC. If you go during nice weather, Central Park is great. Playgrounds, boating, Belvedere Castle. You could stay on the UWS in a more residential neighborhood (less stimulating than Midtown for your son), and be close the park and the American Museum of Natural History. Alternatively, you could stay downtown and do the Statue of Liberty and spend some time in Brooklyn. Brooklyn Bridge Park is fantastic. You could visit the NY Transit Museum. If you find yourself in or around Chelsea you could walk the Highline, which is lovely. There is a cute little kids play area 30th Street.
