Breakthrough Montessori. First year school, head of school is not montessori trained and they are not seeking accredidation Why aren't they seeking to be accredited?
They have to seek accreditation within their first five years per DC PCSB policy. They can choose to seek accreditation from a number of entities approved by OSSE (Breakthrough hasn't said which one they will use). They did just hire (within in last 45 days) a new head of instruction who is an experienced Montessori teacher and administrator.
that sounds good. Lee's head also isn't Montessori trained though the two other founders were Montessori teachers, and Lee is a true blue Montessori school. My one worry about new Montessori schools is it could be a money maker for an unscrupulous company who sees green at the thought of a legitimate way to have 30 kids in classroom with one teacher In practice, with a lottery population, you need a lot of aids/assistants and thus Lee has three adults in all the primary classrooms. Breakthough doesn't strike me as at all unscrupulous and seems to be doing all the right things.
