Good. The thing I like is the university turned it over to the real police and let them handle it. No kangaroo courts run by the university administration for a serious felony like this. Real police are best equipped to investigate and handle serious felonies. Leave the university police to investigate cases of graffiti and defacing the opposing team's mascot before the big game.
They didn't "turn it over" to the police. Cornell suspended the entire fraternity. This is separate from anything the "real police" have done. In other cases, at other schools, the local police didn't find enough evidence to press charges, but the schools still conducted their own hearings, either way. At some point, they will probably have a hearing on the accused rapist student's status with the school based on available evidence.
Not PP but I think she was referring to the sexual assault being handled by the real police. Lots of colleges "handle" these things internally using campus police. Obviously the police can't suspend a fraternity and only the university can do that.
If a student reports the crime to the real police they have to investigate it. The university can shoo the police away. If the student reports it to campus police then they might not report it to the local police.
