Thanks everyone! We don't want to overcharge. Several are elderly or retired neighbors. But I don't want him to undercharge either. It is a lot of snow and will be a lot more work than a normal snowstorm. What do you all think of $10.00 per 6" of snow? Our neighborhood has primarily single car driveways.
Don't charge the elderly. Yankee here. They might offer the teens something, it is up to the teens if they accept it, maybe after complete insistence. The teens should only shovel as many driveways as they can.
Normally I would agree with this but in a couple of cases there might be an element of "pride" involved if the elderly are insisting on paying. For example, if a neighbor man usually did all his own lawnwork and then suddenly hit a point where he couldn't. I know my FIL had a hard time accepting that part of aging and hiring the neighborhood teens for things like shoveling and lawn mowing helped him to keep his pride at losing his physical ablilty to be entirely self sufficient. He saw that as giving a kid his first job vs charity from tue neighborhood kid because he was too old/frail to do it on his own anymore. It seems like this might be a similar case, so I would be okay with the teen getting paid. Elderly widow on a fixed income though? Free neighborly help and life lesson for the kid.
