We have a Tiguan and have our DS is a Diono Radian. He's still rear-facing in it, and we've been using it since he was about 3 months. I've never had trouble with it fitting into the Tiguan (and FWIW, the backseat really isn't very small compared to many cars -- I did a lot of comparison when we bought it). It fits in the rear-facing without having to move either front seat up and behind either seat directly, but you do have to move the seat up a tiny bit (not uncomfortably so, just about one notch from the farthest back).
Do you use the angle adjuster pad thing? or just the radian as it comes?
PP here. To be honest, I don't even know what the angle adjuster pad is. We just use the seat as it came, and it's always worked fine. I suppose it's possible that the seats are a little different shaped now than they were when we bought them. Ours is about 3 years old...
Ok good to know. The Diono seats are all the same when it comes to the bottom and installation. The adjuster (link below) is a pad that helps the Diono/Radian seats sit more upright. Without it the seat is a bit reclined. Meaning, it'll definitely fit in the Tiguan with or without the adjuster. Good option for OP. Here's the angle adjuster... https://us.diono.com/accessories/angle-adjuster
