The reality of a family's financial situation need to be explained up front to the college-bound child. My issue is when parents use the financial angle to control a child's choices. I've seen this happen on a number of occasions and think it is very passive aggressive and manipulative. But there's nothing wrong -- in fact it's a good thing -- to be honest with your child about what a family can afford and is willing to pay for.[/quote]
