When we started out twins in daycare around this time 3 years ago, I talked with the director of the center and ultimately opted to buy pizza lunch and drinks for the staff that year. We scheduled a day and I coordinated with the director to have pizza delivered and put in the staff break room for the entire staff of 12. It was greatly appreciated. We started cash gifts the following year.
Yes, this is a lovely idea, too. OP sounds like she's at a family childcare, in someone's home? Just bake 2 dozen cookies (with NO nuts, peanuts or nut/peanut flavorings if they are sensitive to that at your childcare) and call it a day. You do NOT need to do this. Next year, if you want to, you can start doing a cash gift, once you have a longer relationship with them. And to the PP who doesn't have the money for a holiday gift (or Christmas, or Hanukkah, depending on what the provider celebrates) - please just do what you can do. Can you, too, bake 2 dozen cookies or brownies? Yum!
