I don't know. Here's a few guesses:

1. Maybe this will go viral and my kid will be on Ellen?
2. Maybe this will go viral and my kid will get a tv/movie role?
3. Maybe this will go viral and my kid can write about this experience in his essay for college applications?
4. Maybe this will go viral and people will realize what a crazy, hateful racist Trump is?

First, all kids parrot their parents to a certain extent. That's how small
children learn and develop.

My 8 year old, however, is really into politics and social justice. He's also pretty bright and very empathetic and sensitive. At first, he thought trump was hilarious. But after watching a few sound bites/clips, he was appalled. Even an 8 year old grasps the basic concept of political correctness and understands there are things you simply shouldn't say...with blatant racist comments at the top of the list.

Candidly, I feel like I will have failed miserably as a parent if any of my kids grows up to be a republican. If they do, then that would mean that my DH and I failed to instill in them the basic moral foundation that shapes our beliefs.

Back to your statement about parroting: my 8 year old and I actually have some differing political views. I'm pulling for Hillary while he prefers Bernie...at least he preferred Bernie after watching the last debate. We'll see if I can convert him.

I think most of you aren't grasping the artistic choices the producer of the video deliberately made. You're getting stuck on the potty mouth language which was not only used for shock value, but also to demonstrate the need for and value of political correctness in civilized society--underscoring how Trump's typical no holds bar/aggressive/racist/critical/mean spirited language is very inappropriate.

The brilliance of the Colbert Report was probably above your head as well. And that's a shame. Humor--especially when it goes viral--is a highly effective political tool these days. [/quote]
