Thanks...I'm sorry this is the case for you, too! ILs version of listening is "waiting for our turn to talk." I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't perceive me as quiet and stand-offish, when really I've just had to shut down to protect myself.[/quote]

God yes,  me too. Well, it's like this with my FIL and his wife. That is what I do too, shut down and not speak. There is no point. They do not listen and do not care. And if I ever do talk, they constantly interrupt. They are visiting now and I'm losing the will to live![/quote]

Ah, I wish! It's my DD's seventh birthday tomorrow plus I just generally have to wait on them hand and foot. Them and my three kids! Actually, I can honestly say that my kids are more helpful and MUCH better listeners than their grandparents!

Just one week to get through! I'll make it! Your sympathy and commiseration have made me smile tonight though so thanks for that.

OP, I try to be grateful that they are alive and well and in our lives and good intentioned. And I am grateful for that. But it's still okay and normal to get frustrated. I'm with you.
