My MIL gave her kids the bare minimum. I believe I owe my kids far more and if I can't help, I will at least not turn myself into another dependent. DH knows I would be justified not to even speak to MIL after the way she has talked about and to me, among other things. I have been so unfailingly polite and kind to her that he can't ask me to empty my pockets on top of it. The comment I mentioned in my first post was my way of letting MIL know for the first time in advance so that she can look to whatever Plan B is.
