No way. I think people are more accepting of everyone now. We've come a long way in 50 years. My grandparents ideas of race and gender are very different than my own.
I agree with this. the next generation is even more color blind.
I hope this is true. For everyone's sake it better be. Because in 50-60 years this country is going to look very different demographically.
Oddly, I do not think a more diverse nation will prevent racism. Some of the worst racists I have met have been Asian's and Hispanics.
This. Some of my Latino family members have the most vile things to say about blacks - when they are part black (Afro-Caribbean) themselves. It is totally crazy.
I'm curious what vile stuff they say?
No PP, but I can attest that it sounds just as bad as the racist whites of the old south (and maybe some in today's America). I have seen African's put down African Americans and call them lazy. I see Chinese folks look down on Indonesians. Asians generally look down on all people of color period. To them blacks in particular, but also Hispanics, are considered lazy and unmotivated, unless its sports. You will be hard pressed to find a black/Asian couple. Particularly am Asian woman with black or Hispanic man. They exist, but I'm willing to bet the Asian's girls parents are raising holy hell. Hispanics discriminate as well, even amongst themselves. Cubans think they are better than Puerto Ricans and Dominicans. Light skinned Dominicans look down on darker skinned ones. And Mexicans and Hondurans are considered the bottom. God forbid you are a dark Mexican. You are the lowest of the low. Hispanics, if given a choice, would categorize themselves as white rather than black. Even though you technically have no Hispanics/latinos without some Afro-ancestry. Truly bizarre stuff. Pretty much, if you are AA (non-African) or non-white Mexican in this country, you will have the most difficult path from a perception standpoint with any other race or ethnicity.
