Who said anything about Sherwood being Utopia?

My point is this: if you bother to move out to Olney and want your kids to build friendships from K-HS, then buy in a neighborhood that feeds into Sherwood instead of buying into Cashell. Otherwise, your kid ends up at a different HS than all the kids he plays sports with, goes to CCD with, etc.

And in Sherwood vs. Magruder, Sherwood wins (by a lot). But Good Counsel trounces Sherwood.

PS - Olney is more Catholic and conservative than I anticipated. It doesn't really impact our lives, but it's something I try to keep in mind when chatting about politics, etc. [/quote]

Actually it is. I would urge you to look at not only the programs offered but also how they are delivered.

I have looked at them.  I know teachers from both schools.  I know teachers who have taught at Good Counsel and for MCPS.  Each school offers programs the other doesn't (GC has IB, Sherwood has more AP offerings, etc.).   You can certainly make a reasonable argument that one might be better than the other but to suggest that Good Counsel "trounces" Sherwood means you either are drinking the Kool-Aid or simply have been drawn to hyperbole.  If you think GC is stronger, fine, that's reasonable, but it certainly doesn't "trounce Sherwood.  [/quote]

Good Counsel was a dump when I was in high school.  It was the lowest Catholic school in the group that took the worst kids.  (I know. Many of my cousins went, and one was kicked out.  lol)

Its reputation improved only b/c of the move.  Academically, it's mediocre.  If you have the $, Prep is a much better choice (for boys, that is).  And while I love the Olney/Ashton/Brookeville area, many who send their kids to GC think they have $ - but really can't compete.  [/quote]
