That said, I used to help at a food kitchen when I was a kid, and I remember asking why most of the families there were spanish-speaking/latino. I was given a basic explanation of immigration and how many immigrants come here because they have no jobs at home, and it takes a while to get on their feet once they arrive, what with the language barrier, etc. It was a totally understandable explanation for a kid. So, you could go that route, if you know these people are immigrants. [/quote]

New poster here. I was thinking along the same lines as that.  But you put it better.  I live in a very diverse area, and see all kinds of people asking for money on the side of the road.  But if OP is driving through very segregated areas, I can see how it could look to OP's daughter.    People don't travel too far away from where they live to ask for money.   [/quote]
