Take a peek at Greek mythology and artwork going back hundreds of years. Our brains are set up to remember what might kill us, so we can avoid it in the future or learn a way to protect ourselves. Our fear of losing someone close to us is also a strong motivator. Creatures who form strong bonds are at an evolutionary advantage.
