After spending hours on the internet, I found this awesome hat. It's lightweight, breathes, is washable, and is very portable (you can scrunch it up when you need do). http://www.sundayafternoons.com/kids-play-hat.html Our children wore this religiously when they were younger, and nary a sunburn did we have. Unfortunately, once they hit about 5, both boys and girl seem to develop a resistance to hats. Now, we just load up on lots of sunblock and wear baseball hats (boys) and pretty, frilly hats that provide only limited sun coverage (girl).
Yep, that is a great hat. My kids wore that one until age 8-10 at school. Then they succumbed to peer pressure and went to baseball caps. I still make them wear these hats when we're at the beach or out for the day in the summer. There is too much melanoma in my family to risk sunburn. These hats are good because they are very lightweight so they can tolerate them in the heat (which is not true for baseball caps). More parents need to insist on hats. Kids don't have a choice to wear clothes, right?!
