DH and I do it every night. We bond over our shows and really enjoy it. Don't see anything wrong with it. Once we have kids, we'll have family dinners. But until then, we love our shows.
+1 We have a kid now, he's three. DH and I ate dinner after he went to bed for the longest time because we liked that time together. Now the three of us eat together at the table, no tv. But occasionally, like tonight, we still all eat in front of the tv. Days like today, dinner doesn't seem like that big a deal. We had a big lunch for Mother's Day, so dinner was leftovers or whatever we wanted from the fridge. DS was cranky tired so I fed him at his little table in front of the TV while I microwaved my food and ate on the couch. DH joined a bit later, made his own dinner. We also still occasionally eat in front of the tv if we're having pizza night or whatever. There's nothing wrong with it.
This is what we do, too. We want our daughter to have a sense of stability and closeness that comes from family meals together at the dinner table (among other things) but also to know how to let her hair down every once in a while and curl up on the couch with a slice of pizza and a movie.
