No, for some schools like, for example, Aiton PK3, there are 2 kids on the wait list, yet 19 seats listed as not matched in round 1.  http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Learn+About+Schools/Lottery+and+Admissions:+Apply+to+Our+Schools  So isn't the relevant question how many seats are available, rather than the length of the wait list?[/quote]

If you have a sibling matched preference, you don't get dropped from the waitlist even if you match at a higher ranked schools.  As the MySchool FAQ page explains, "Each student is waitlisted at every school he or she ranked higher than the school to which they were matched. (It is possible for a student to be waitlisted at every school on his or her list if they are not matched.) [i]Siblings who apply to the same schools also are waitlisted at any school where one of their siblings is matched[/i]."[/quote]
