New poster who also never had facial Does it hurt? What does extraction mean? Is it like waxing to get hairs out or more? Do you tell facialist(never knew that was word) you have never had it before?
Most of the facial is pure relaxation and does not hurt. They use creams and masks to clean your face and you typically get a neck and shoulder massage while the masks are sitting on your face. Extraction is where they basically squeeze out the blackheads that are on your face (mostly on your nose and chin). You typically sit under steam for maybe 10 min or so to open your pores. I personally ask the person to do a lot of extraction because I want that gunk cleaned out. But, you can direct them to just do a little extraction and tell them to stop if it hurts. That's maybe 10 min of the 60 min facial so the majority is relaxation. But it's worth it because your skin looks nice after. A lot of people do break out after a facial because it opens your pores and cleans out your skin and tends to bring blemishes to the surface. Try to resist putting on makeup or other stuff on your face for a few hours after you get a facial. Do NOT get a facial during your lunch hour or during the workday. Go when you have nothing important scheduled for a few hours after. The facialist will likely ask about your skin care routine and whether you have had a facial before. It's OK to be honest.
