I also have a rising third grader.  At the start of second grade this year we had so many behavioral problems that we were told by our developmental pediatrician to immediately find a SN placement.  We were the family who was first accepted and then rejected from the Unstuck and On Target Saturday social skills classes run by Ivymount outreach.  My son attends a language immersion school and is above grade level academically.  He would have had to give up the immersion language which he'd had since preK4 if we changed schools.

It's all worked out for us.  DS's public charter came through for us.  They did a functional behavioral analysis and DS has a behavioral plan which is working great.  DS had a neuropsych eval where he was diagnosed with ADHD combined (in addition to the ASD) and for which he is now medicated.  We fired our developmental pediatrician.  The school is now going to implement the Unstuck and On Target curriculum in a classroom for next year.  DS does not have to give up the immersion language.  DS is very happy at school.

Worth it to pursue what you can from public school, they may surprise you.  We are and so thankful.
