I felt like they showed us that to highlight Rick's now suspicious nature.  He has turned into a real bad ass.

Remember when he was outside the gates, and they focused on his eyes for several seconds?  He was shaking and scared. Then he heard it - heard kids playing inside the gates.  He had said earlier, that Woodbury and Terminus were quiet, too quiet.  I think Rick now has to transform back into someone who can live in a society - a society where he is not the boss.  Imagine if he became a cop security guard again - no way he could do it.  He'd shoot first, and then shoot again.  No questions.[/quote]
