Basically Saul is now working at Cinnabon and hiding out in Omaha.

When we flashback to the late 90s, he's trying to start his own law firm.  Before that, he got into some trouble in Chicago and his brother had to help him out.  Afterwards, he moves to NM where he used to work in the mail room of his brother's firm and go to law school.

But since then his older, very successful brother has developed a mental illness that makes him a recluse because he is fearful of electromagnetic radiation.  He keeps saying that he is going to get better, which means he won't pursue a buy out from the firm.  Now he and Saul are both paupers.  If they take any of what the firm is offering, it makes it harder for them to sue for a buyout, anyway.

So now Saul is doing public defender work and trying to land a high profile case like the Kettlemans to get his firm going, which has set the plot in motion for this season.[/quote]
