[/quote] Not always the case. My DC went to private school with no bus service/no public transit. Once DC could drive to school it freed up a lot of my time which I can then charge to clients. So that additional productivity more than paid for the car. Not to mention the bonus of not being stuck in traffic every day. Same with college - DC being able to drive to and from college means that it saves us a day of time driving there and back several times a year. It's not that I didn't like spending time in the car with my kids but I did it for 16 years and was happy to have a break from it.[/quote] I didn't say it was dumb to get them a car. Just a new one. Especially if you need to get a loan for it. New drivers of any age are hard on cars and make them depreciate faster than usual. Insurance on new cars is usually higher, too. Be smart and buy used.[/quote]
