Why in the world are they a young person item?  Not being snarky, I honestly am bewildered why people think this.  They are BOOTS, not micro-minis!  I'm 45 and wear them all the time; have no plans to stop.

I never get these posts where people seem to think that once you're over 40, you can't wear all sorts of perfectly reasonable clothes.

Pigtails are also little girl clothes, too. There's no reason for that. They just are. Big hair bows are young girl clothes. There's no reason. They just are.

Agree with your general principle that some things "just are," but simply completely disagree that Uggs fall into that category.  Not childish-looking at all to me or the other hundreds of thousands of people who choose to wear them, LOL.  But to each her own!
