not interested in stem for my kids. They can get some vo-tech stem degree in college if they really want to. Humanities, especially writing, literature, history, music is what they need to be engaged, successful people in the world.
Um, STEM doesn't mean vo-tech. That's a whole different thing. But, vo-tech also an area that is greatly needed.
Why do we always give short schrift to vo-tech education?
Cause the illegals do it for cheap and it doesn't take a 4 year commitment
What illegals do isn't "vo tech". An illegal immigrant isn't going to be the one on a construction site who understands the electrical code and local ordinances, who's reading the plans, doing the scheduling and planning, ordering the materials, preparing invoices, working with architects and engineers, working with inspectors, et cetera. The ones who do make good money and are highly valued in industry. The illegals on the other hand are are typically just low wage, unskilled, semi-skilled grunts and laborers, hired for the day, who just tote, fetch and follow simple directions.
Sorry but that is typically a GC and usually has a 4 year degree. It is happening, the cheaper undocumented labor is taking over all of the work except for the higher up. So what you get is a highly paid GC and an assistant who speaks Spanish and low paid undocumented electricians, plumbers, drywall, carpenters etc.... I have met the undocumented workers and they are in fact as good and sometimes better than the causation ones who typically will whine and work a minimal amount of hours and demand higher pay.
