not interested in stem for my kids. They can get some vo-tech stem degree in college if they really want to. Humanities, especially writing, literature, history, music is what they need to be engaged, successful people in the world.
Um, STEM doesn't mean vo-tech. That's a whole different thing. But, vo-tech also an area that is greatly needed.
Why do we always give short schrift to vo-tech education?
The poster that you were responding to was not disparaging vo-tech careers and in fact specifically stated that they are "greatly needed". The fact of the matter is that we (as a system) have manage to do both poorly. If we ever hope to narrow the yawning income gap in this city, we need to do both STEM and Vo-Tech much better than we currently are. Lockheed is providing a $2M Project Lead the Way grant to DCPS to improve STEM curriculum and programming (http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/dcps-to-expand-stem-courses-thanks-to-a-2-million-lockheed-martin-grant/2014/11/07/90c16cea-66be-11e4-836c-83bc4f26eb67_story.html)
