A friend of mine got testicle cancer and died of it when he was 15 years old. If hadn't been too embarrassed to tell his mother that there was something wrong with his balls, he might have had a better chance of survival. There are a bunch of videos on Youtube about how to check testicles for cancer. Have your kid watch them, so that he can get used to the idea and see that it's no big deal.
