The OP (assuming that isn't you) didn't say her husband couldn't figure it out, only she couldn't, and didn't understand his explanation. And yes, I have no trouble believing that an non-engineer adult taught math the way it was taught when I was in school would have trouble understand third grade math today, because they weren't taught to truly understand what they were doing, they were just taught to memorize multiplication tables.[/quote]
