What is also relevant is why we seem to see much more in the way of extremism among Muslims over the past several decades. For example, the first major act of terrorism that I recall which caught the attention of the world was during the Munich Olympics in 1972. So terrorism/extremism among Muslims is not something that has always been around.
That may be the first major act of terrorism that you recall, but terrorism is almost as old as human history. In that region alone, many of Israel's eventual leaders were terrorists. Also, Munich was undertaken by Palestinians. There were Christians among them. Their commander had a Christian father and a Jewish mother.
A practicing Christian or born?
Does anyone ask this of Islamic terrorist? The 9/11 attackers were drinking and going to strip clubs -- not exactly devout, yet we call them islamic terrorists. When it's a Christian, we always look for an excuse to distance ourselves from them. Oh, he's an extremist, radical fringe, he has perverted Christianity. But when it's a Muslim, we call him devout.
An observation - we call them Islamic terrorists because THEY call themselves Islamic. They commit their atrocities in the name of Islam. Some of the other groups referenced - KKK, IRA - didn’t commit their sins in the name of Christianity. They did not shout “God is great” or “Jesus is King” before killing.
And they are not happening now! Please name one Christian terrorist group that murders other Christians. Or better yet, name a Christian terrorist group that is actively killing anyone today???? Also, the threat remains and based on these postings, seems no one has any practical ideas, too busy warning us about Christian terrorists.
Uganda LRA US: Covenant Sword Arm of the Lord, Hutaree, and some other Christian Militias.
Uganda LRA - poor comparison. evokes Acholi nationalism on occasion, group does NOT rely on its christian ideology for its message, there are NO killing of non-christians in the name of Christ, they kill to take power not as puntative. VERY VERY BIG DIfference Covenant Sword Arm of the Lord, Hutaree, and some other Christian Militias. - are you kidding? maybe armed groups, but there are NO killings of non-christians in the name of Christ. They do not behead small children, sell their teenagers or give teenaged women to their soldiers. If this is the best you can do, I think the attempt to provides these groups as equivalent to the True Islam terrorists, it clearly confirms the original premise that ALL MAJOR TERRORISM TODAY is by True Islam that follows Mohmmed and Quran. ISIL Al Qaeda Taliban Boko Haram al-Shabaab What is the common denominator? All followers of Mohammed? All based on the Quran. So why is this and how can we stop it? We need moderate Muslims to help provide guidance to the world.
