An immersion program is like any other school program - not doing so violates Federal anti-discrimination laws. Think about it - your child has, say, dyslexia (which doesn't magically disappear in another language). An immersion program requires you to read in both languages. You're entitled to support and, if there is a need, goals - a language like Mandarin has unique characteristics that need to be addressed for a child with a disability.[/quote]
