Sure, telling the Preschool teacher to call him Rick is fine, and he'd probably have that name all throughout his life, but when someone sees your name first before being introduced to you, they would call you Fred, not Rick. Easy enough to say, call me Rick instead, but most people who don't know you would call you Fred, not Rick upon first meeting. That was my point.[/quote] If you were introduced to somebody named Frederick, you would say, "Hi, Fred"? If so, why would you do this? Do you also say, "Hi, Bob" to people named Robert, and "Hi, Mike" to people named Michael, even though you have no idea whether they actually go by "Bob" or "Mike"?[/quote]
