How is that better? There's still plenty of sugar in an angel food cake. Is it just because there's no frosting?
Go to dessert in this situation is an angel food cake with some kind of fresh fruit topping. As the wife of a type I diabetic I've prepared this many times.

Angel food cake has much less sugar, fat and calories than other kinds of cake, particularly cake with icing. This is because it's largely air. Given that most diabetics are on diets where they can eat some carbs/sugar, just not huge amounts, it's a good choice. I'd serve it with fresh berries (also lower in sugar and carbs than other fruit) and a choice of regular and sugar free cool whip or whipped cream. That way people can make their own choices, like the adults they are.
