Huh. I just spent like 2 hours reading about BPD, and it describes a highly manipulative, angry, lying, often abusive sibling of mine. It explains everything and nothing at the same time. I don't know if they've been diagnosed with anything, and I realize everyone likes to apply an armchair diagnosis on the internet, but I know they've had run-ins with many therapists over the years for behavior issues. They're also financially successful and married, which people tend to not associate with personality disorders. But damn if it doesn't totally describe this sibling. They're not in my life anymore, thankfully. Some time ago I plain refused to be on the receiving end of their outbursts and manipulations. But admittedly, sometimes it still hurts.
Hard to do the armchair psychiatry. But typically BPD people are not very successful in life because they are just too dysfunctional, e.g. myriad suicide attempts. A personality disorder that can be high achieving in a worldly way, however, is the narcissistic personality type. You might google that one and see if it fits even better. I think armchair psychiatry is perfectly fine if you are entering it in the spirit of helping you to understand someone better.
