OP, are you a teacher at this school? Because if you aren't, then I don't understand why you are getting involved with a supposed matter of how a principal interacts with the teachers. If you're a parent, you have the right to expect clear communication from the principal and a solid school discipline. But you DO NOT have the right to tell the principal how he/she should instruct the teachers she supervises or what methods of leadership work best. That's between the principal, the superintendent, and the teachers. Let them sort out their issues. You focus on your children. Things work A LOT more smoothly when everyone focuses on their own interests rather than telling others how to conduct their affairs.
Honestly PP, that's like "trickle down economics": if it worked, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Whether OP is a teacher, a parent, or simply a concerned community member, EVERYONE has a right to be concerned about what's going on in a school building and how it affects the children who are supposed to be educated in that building. If OP's post is true, students are losing out big time because teachers are unhappy or even worse, harassed. EVERY DC RESIDENT who pays taxes has a right to express concerns and try to fire off flares into the sky if they think something egregious is occurring at a DC public school. Some voices are going to be taken more seriously than others: teachers, students, parents, principals. But ANYONE can try, and thank heavens everyone doesn't think like you do, in this limited, totally counter-productive "Stay in your own lane" thinking. What big problems ever get solved by everyone staying in their lanes and only speaking out about the things directly in their control? NONE. It wouldn't become a big problem if people were taking care of business in the first place. I have no idea if these are real problems that OP describes at Malcolm X ES. But I would rather serious concerns like this be expressed to whoever has influence and will listen and look into it, than that people feel like they have to mind their own business and leave it to others to resolve. Kids can't speak up for themselves on things like this, and they are the most important part of the equation. An awful school leader, or awful teachers, or awful security conditions... all of those make it IMPOSSIBLE for kids to get what they need in school, especially elementary school kids. OP go for it, if you really think there is a concern, talk to whoever you think will listen and can help. Mayor's office, City Council, anyone. Students need this hlep.
