Good alternatives that are healthy: - trail mix - kale chips (also a busy working mom and I make these in 10 minutes and my kids DESTROY them instantly in any snack or lunch situation) - something like date bars that's sweet but healthy - black bean brownies (also easy and fast to cook, and loaded with protein) - sugar snap peas These are all things DD and DS love and will eat as a snack (and sometimes as dessert). Most of the processed stuff you can buy is garbage and most of the "good" unprocessed stuff is expensive, so I set aside like 20 minutes to whip something up on Sunday that will last the week.
NP. I'm kitchen-challenged. Do you have links to make the kale chips and/or the black bean brownies? Thanks!
Sure, I don't really use a recipe for kale chips, but here is a good one: Kale chips: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2010/03/baked-kale-chips/ (I use regular kale, not dino kale, but both are great -- regular kale takes LESS TIME so don't bake for 20 minutes! It only needs about 10 when I do it) Black bean brownies: http://thehairpin.com/2014/03/the-disgustingly-good-black-bean-brownies (it says to use rice flour but I just use regular flour or ground up oats)
