Wow...Really? Jeff, please remove this post.
The poster sounds like a jerk, but has a legitimate question. The only advice I can offer is to either answer his question or skip this thread. It is sad, but I suspect a lot of guys would react to special needs kids that aren't their own in this manner. I hope his girlfriend understands this and sends him packing.
Jeff, I respectfully disagree. So, if there was a similar posting in the Camps section reading: My girlfriend's kid is [a child of xyz race or a named religion] and as you can imagine a real pain in the ass to be around. I'd rather have my summer [named race/ESL or named religion] free so I was wondering if any of you could recommend a summer camp I can send him off to? I'd love to send him to something out of state, like MD or PA but local is fine as long as they keep him overnight. Would that type of post be OK with you? Even, as you say, if a lot of guys might react to this fictional kid in this manner for any of a number of reasons? (it would not be OK with me and I'm guessing some of your general NT readers/posters) If not, then I'm not sure why it's OK to ask same about SN. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for reading.
I've been watching this thread because many posters were concerned that the OP was a troll. It looks like he hasn't posted again. Therefore, it's hard to tell. But, in response to this message, let me just say that I am not a fan of the "let's change a word" game. I will never operate with machine-like consistency. But, even so, if we were to try the same thing with threads that you probably welcome in this forum, we would easily see the failings of this technique. For instance, what about a thread that started, "I feel overwhelmed by my child's race or religion" or, "my child is only mildly race or religion" doesn't it sound a lot different? I get that the question was asked in an insulting manner. Many of you may not know that it was asked even more insultingly the first time and I deleted it (hence the "let's try this again" in the subject). But, questions are appropriate in this forum. I can imagine that there are a number of questions that rub at least some the wrong way (though, not necessarily to this extent). That's just unavoidable with topics such as this that are very personal.
