Anyone know the ED rates for Va Tech in Fairfax County HS? For Engineering?
You can start with the common data set to get the overall early rate. Tech's admit rate overall is pretty high. For your HS you need to check Naviance which should give you a 5 year history.
Not anymore. I toured last week. VA Tech has ED (binding) in Nov. There are 8 colleges from which you must select. Four are the most difficult to get into: Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, and something else I can't remember (DC wants engineering). When you apply, you are allowed to select one of the most difficult four. (engineering is the most difficult; also you are competing against the ROTC kids who all want engineering) Then you must make a second choice of the four other colleges NOT including one of the top four. There's also a slot for undecideds but then you later have to worry about applying in to the college of your choice. One of the Assistant Deans said that for Engineering, only 10-20% of the EDs (binding) will make it. A great many others will be put in the deferral box because VA Tech wants to see first term senior grades or more information; the rest will be denied outright. The A. Dean was making the case for waiting for regular application in January because so few make it into the engineering department ED. As a parent, I want to do ED just to try and get the hell of the mess over and not have to apply to 20 schools during December and January (worked with first child on EA). We are not from Fairfax so can't help you there.
