I have no idea as I am not part of the Westbriar community. I do know that schools are made into AAP Centers at the request of the community, and that community is led by the school principal. If there were parents that did not want AAP at Westbriar, I do hope they made their opinions known to the school principal.
Well, I am part of the Westbriar community and I can tell you that the request did not come from a majority of parents. And yes, those opposing making Westbriar an AAP center did make their opinions known to both the principal, the PTA, as well as the school board rep, who wasn't wild about the idea either. Sadly, these things are not put to a vote, and even when there was a meeting at Westbriar to discuss whether converting to a center made sense, it was clear the decision to go ahead had already been made by the principal, PTA president and others who felt they had a stake in the outcome ( parents who had younger kids they hoped would qualify for AAP). The whole thing was kind of a joke. It will be interesting to see if those parents who had so much certitude about the wisdom of turning the school into a center still feel that way a few years from now when it's pushing 900 kids, and AAP kids are once again threatening to outnumber those from the neighborhood.
+100 Colvin Run is a perfect example of a center with 900+ kids, most of whom (in grades 3-6) are AAP. This school will never be a "community school" as it's AAP run amok.
