NP here. Just to set the record straight, the poster PP is inquiring about called people who sleep train "evil" along with epithets of similar meaning. I think "dumbass" is nothing compared to that, and "shut the fuck up" an understandable (if not very classy) response to such insults.

I never called anyone evil -- that was one of the other posters (which OP here claims did not exist). I didn't do any name calling. I would never call someone a "dumbass" or say "SHUT THE FUCK UP" to make my point, like your side did. I seriously don't see how it is necessary just because someone disagrees with you. I was insulted and called names on almost every post. I DID say that if you have to resort to that kind of insult as a response, that [b]it speaks volumes about[/b] the lack of a good argument for your side and [b]the kind of people who hold those beliefs.[/b] I wish Jeff had gone through the thread -- almost every. single. post on this OP's side contained an insult. Calm down. I was not referring to you, but to the poster the OP of this thread inquired about. You made it clear before that that's not you, so fine. The fact remains that there was at least one poster who was extremely insulting towards parents who sleep train, and who was responsible for derailing the thread. Despite her inflammatory messages, there were still some reasonable and informed pro-sleep training posts that did not contain swear words and insults. And I say this as someone who actually didn't sleep train. But whether you like it or not, there are actually good arguments to do it.[/quote]  
 
I am calm. There were multiple posters, although OP insists there was just one (me in the beginning). The pro-sleep training posts were insulting, almost to a one. People have a right to voice their opinions without being insulted. And if you think you're in the right, then I don't understand where the need to insult or to extinguish opposing opinions comes from.[/quote]

I agree with you that insults are not a good response to someone you disagree with, and I wasn't one of those posters. However, I bolded a line in your post above, a generalization that makes me suspect that while you may not have used foul language, you were still telling sleep training parents that they are terrible people. Here is a hint: nobody appreciates that, and it can make people very angry. It is also not based on any evidence. So you should not be surprised if some posters lost their temper with you.[/quote]

The name calling was offensive and harsh and appeared in probably 90 percent of the posts that were pro-sleep training. They were not warranted. Period. If someone disagrees with sleep training and that opinion makes you feel like you are being called a terrible person, then you are on shaky ground.[/quote]
