There are lots of car pools organized by parents at YY. There are also parent organized buses and vans that go to different parts of the city.
At the risk of stating the obvious, YY families are better organized, informed, and resourced than most (if not all) DC families. It doesn't apply to everyone. Do with that what you will.
How much does the YY bus/van cost per month? I've heard it's pretty pricey, and added to aftercare costs it sounded like you're approaching the costs of a private school.
The same as the cost of aftercare and bus in privates? Yes, very close. But, no tuition.
My point was that $800 (or more)/mo. for 9-10 months totals around $8000, which is on par with private school tuition at some schools (eg parochial).
The combined cost of a bus/van and aftercare is certainly not $800, maybe $600 if you are paying the full fare. And I can safely say the school is hands down better than any parochical school you might find for $8k a year! Sure, not everyone can do it but the bus/van is optional-most drive or arrange (free) carpools and there is reduced after care for people who qualify.
MV beforecare is 120 and aftercare is 520. That combined with $4 a day for lunch $15 a month for snacks, adding the shuttle bus service might but you to $800.
Perhaps you should have thought of these added costs before applying to MV. Lots of people would be happy to take your spot.
