I've started telling some of the people in my life to go fuck themselves... almost verbatim, actually. It's not going so well, to tell you the truth. None of those people had any intention of ever helping me out, even when they were aware that my family and I were in extremis, but they haven't responded well at all to my having called them on it.[/quote]

I recently told a friend how uncomfortable I feel with the lack of reciprocity in my relationships. Our conversation was about a big issue not relating to her, but while talking about that, I mentioned my visits to her home when she & her husband moved to various states in the U.S., and also abroad, when she didn't visit me until (finally) once last year. She actually reacted indignantly, but since she couldn't deny the facts, she ended up just sputtering.

I'm working on making new friends. It really is my responsibility to make it clear to people that friendship with me involves reciprocity.  [/quote]
