Coconut oil does not contain cholesterol (since it is not an animal product like butter or lard) and is composed of medium-chain triglycerides (fatty acids). Patients that have malnutrition or malabsorption syndromes are treated with MCTs because they do not require energy for absorption, utilization, or storage.
