One should be able to expect exceptional public schools. Period. That proposition should be entirely separate from private schools. Take DC as a cautionary tale. I have long believed that the fact that there were so many good private schools (and, well, so many good local suburban schools that folks could move to), meant that there wasn't enough focus on fixing the problem with the public schools. Let's not let that happen to MCPS. Let's instead keep the pressure on in order to make MCPS the best it can be. Let's not go down that futile road of "if you don't like it, send your kid to private school." [/quote]
