Does Julian Fellows hate the actress who plays edith? Why else has he turned he so miserable, it gets worse every single season. Eveyr scene she is in just requires her to be whimpering. And I really think her character has the most potential to be interesting. Can someone clarify who the young woman was hanging out with Prince of Wales on the episode? She accompanied him to Rose's ball and made him dance the first dance with Rose.
I agree about Edith. She's become a sad sack character, which is annoying. I thought her path was going to take an interesting turn in terms of quasi-professional development. Maybe she'd become a journalist, maybe she'd become a newspaper editor. Maybe she'd move to London and start living her lown life there. But no, instead there's a stupid plot line about her disappearing man and the sad plot line about her baby. Her idea of giving it to the tenant farmer and hoping nobody notices she's always down there visiting is just stupid. I loved Carson in this episode, and his huffing, tut-tutting, eyebrow-raising, and humphing. The end scene with him and Mrs. Hughes was very sweet. I don't love Daisy but I was happy for her and laughed when she said she was so "chuffed." And I am THRILLED to say goodbye to the annoying Ivy. Mary is opportunistically now highly interested in Blake, since she now knows he's going to be rich. Ugh. I wish Mary would have some of Edith's bad luck and Edith could catch many of the breaks that Mary catches. The portrayal of the Americans was kind of irritating. Too caricatured. For example, Harold would know not to just introduce himself to the prince. All Americans are not country bumpkins, Julian Fellowes. But the American manservant was hilarious, especially when he was asking Carson for the low-down on whether Daisy was attached or not. :-D I agree with the PP who said that the schoolteacher is annoying. Tom deserves much better! I loved the way Tom bitchslapped the oily Thomas back to his proper place. It's time we find out what Thomas has on Baxter. They've been dragging it out all season and never revealed it. What's her past?? As usual, loved the dresses!
