Federal Policy Analyst I enjoy the work, travel to lots of interesting places, my colleagues are young, intelligent and motivated, I feel like I'm accomplishing something worthwhile, and it's family-friendly. Good job security, benefits, and a reasonably good salary.
this is me, too, only with very limited travel and my colleagues aren't especially young, though they are intelligent and motivated. I love feeling like my work makes a positive contribution to the world.
Addressing some of the questions above: I started out after college working for a consulting firm that specialized in a particular area. After a few years, I went back to school to get a master's degree in public policy. Since then I have worked for several different government agencies with this particular focus. My current job I have held for 9 years. The work is very interesting and I have unparalleled access to excellent data allowing for deeply satisfying analytic work. (Much of the work I do is similar to what academic researchers do, but I have better and more immediate access to data they can only dream about, regular and reliable funding, and a more direct and immediate impact on policy development and implementation.) I worked part-time for several years. Now I am FT. Flexible schedule, great benefits, great job security. Salary ~ $135k.
