^^ I did say my info was stale at the beginning, "Had we known about C/A we would not have sent DC to McLean". Also, re McLean: I urged OP to look at the archives because I was not sure what was going on at the school now but I had seen issues fly about on DCUM. I also talked about the expansion being dropped at the beginning of the recession and also about Darlene's departure "a year or two ago". I did mention the new head of the scale and that I had read both good and bad about him and to check the archives. I was hardly hiding anything. But I was one of the few of many posters who could actually answer OP's question having been in both schools. BTW, you are supposed to be nice and supportive on the Special Needs site, not try to see problems where none exist. I noticed the composition of the student body and parents because it was very different from the private from whence we came. No more. No less. That schools did not have divorces, lavish bar mitzvahs, lamborghinis at the car wash, and lots of face lifts and new trophy wives. If you really want to know the truth, I think there were more disturbed kids at McLean because of the high divorce rate. There was only one intact couple in DC's sixth grade class. That wasn't the norm from th eprivate we came from. We re not bitter about the experience at McLean. There was too much homework. It was too expensive. We left. I'm trying to help out OP, not you. She wanted someone to compare the schools, I could. Be nice on this forum.
I posted earlier about McLean and this is so far from the culture we found there that I can't believe its the same school. Perhaps it was the grade your DC was in. My other DC went to a DC private considered a "Big 3" so perhaps my view of this is skewed but I've always found the McLean parents to be down to Earth, certainly in comparison. Maybe I can't pick out the face lifts but I haven't noticed them. I haven't seen a single Lamborghini and all the moms seem to be about my age (early 50s), hardly trophy material. Lots of jeans and comfortable shoes. As for disturbed kids, there were far more kids with mental health issues at my DC's Big 3 than at McLean. I've found the kids at Mclean to be mostly nice kids. I don't think its a perfect school, as I wrote before I think it needs to offer more activities and a more interesting curriculum, but what you've written here just sounds like fiction to me. McLean is a really caring environment that can give kids who needs attention exactly what they need. My DS has essentially grown out of it and needs something bigger and more stimulating but I am so grateful for what Mclean ahs given him. OP, visit both schools. You'll know from your direct visit better than anything anyone could write here.
