wow there are some real non-emphathetic people around
You're right. I don't have much empathy for people like Whitney Houston or others who have all the resources to get sober but choose not to. Especially when they have a child. My cousin was a drug addict who had to work her way up from rock bottom and is now clean and sober. And she had nowhere near the support and money that Whitney Houston had.
Ok good for your cousin. We often we THINK WE KNOW what is going on with someone, we see their outer trappings, their public success, their finances, their relationships. HOWEVER, we don't know what demons plague them, what secrets and pain they hold on the inside. There are things about all of us that only God knows. Someone may make different choices, better choices but that just mean they made better choices, doesn't make them better people. There are certainly things I think I would never do, so I spend my time thinking 'Thank God' I had the foresight, strength and measure of faith to do what was best. I pray peace and discernment for those struggling with pain they cannot get past, and behaviours that are now controlling them. I can feel empathy without condoning or supporting dysfunctional behaviour. I can feel bad for people who lose that struggle, because I know there but for the Grace of God.
