Westbrook is an amazing school. It has huge parent involvement and is very much a neighborhood school. Take a look at their website. You can see from the site that there is a ton of parent involvement. It is NOT overcrowded. It was just renovated and enlarged. The new principal is lovely and seems to have a very nice relationship with faculty and parents. The homework so far for my second grader is not very much at all. I am not a fan of homework in second grade, so this is a plus for me. There are lots of extracurriculars. Call and speak to the principal or PTA president about the school. That's a good way to get a feel for it.
OK PTA President, we got your message. Thanks.
I'm not PP (and also not PTA president), but i live in the westbrook zone. PP, what the poster wrote is exactly what I hear from the parents in my neighborhood. My kid is 4, so I've done a lot of inquiring, and really, the dozen families I know really well with small kids in Westbrook echo what your suspected PTA president said. Parents are VERY happy there. I'm sure there are exceptions to that rule, as there probably are anywhere, but I wouldn't dismiss the PP's post since it really is what I have heard from all parents.
